What is Cottage Shiplap?
Shiplap is a type of wall cladding or siding that joins together by an overlapping edge.
We’re seeing our ship laps used throughout cottages, or simply as a feature wall.
While one of our original products was the log siding and our traditional scalloped shiplap, we’re seeing a huge trend in square edge plank shiplap in more recent years.
Pine Shiplap Plank
If you’re looking for a rustic look, then our 6″ Pine Ship Lap Appearance Grade Plank Siding will give it to you.
This solid wood product is made from carefully selected appearance grade pine, minimizing the number of knots and wastage when installing. It is perfect for a stained or a natural finish.
We manufacture this product ourselves in our facility in Blaketown, NL. It is available in random lengths – a mixture of 6’, 8’, 10’, 12’, 14’ & 16’ lengths. Ask us about different wood species and size options.
While we most often sell our shiplap as a raw product (unfinished), we offer options to obtain a rustic or barn board style. Like with most things here at Distinctive, the options are simply endless.
MDF Shiplap Paint – Painted
Many of our customers are looking for the look of shiplap but in solid painted finish.
We carry 6″ Primed MDF Ship Lap Plank (16’s) to cater to just that. We don’t recommend painting our solid wood shiplap, unless you like the look of knots bleeding through. For a clean modern farmhouse feel, install our MDF Shiplap Plank which comes primed and ready for paint.
Pine Log Siding
Create that ultimate cabin feel with our interior 5″ Pine Log Appearance Grade Siding.
The rounded profile gives the look and warmth of a log cabin. This product has been a staple in our product line from the start.
We have been making it since 1994 and it’s still popular.
Similar to our other solid pine products, we make our log siding from high quality kiln dried appearance grade pine, which is a solid lumber grade with minimum dark knots and holes which minimizes wastage.
It is ideal for stain or a natural finish.
Pine Shiplap
Our 5″ Pine Shiplap Appearance Grade Siding is similar to our log siding as another one of our staple products.
The curved front profile provides a classic feel that will cozy any cottage space.
This product is made from an appearance grade kiln dried solid pine – which gives some beautiful knots without the holes and wastage found in lower grade lumber.
Installation
Shiplap is generally used on walls because of its overlapping profile that creates a neat and tidy finished product. It does not fit together like our T&G products, so while nails can be hidden under the lip on one side, the bottom of each piece requires face-nailing.
